Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Services $600 – $1,150*

What is Magnetic Resonance Imaging?

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses a powerful magnetic field, radio waves and a computer to produce detailed pictures of your organs, soft tissues, bones and other internal body structures.

MRI produces images without the use of radiation, as in CT and x-ray imaging.

Northwest Radiology ensures a safe, painless and non-invasive procedure for all MRI patients. And we are beside you the whole way to answer questions and make you feel comfortable.

  • You may have to place your head in a padded cradle or on a pillow.
  • The technologist will slide the table into the donut-shaped portion of the scanner. The technologist will make sure you are comfortable and then go to the control panel just outside the room. The technologist will be able to watch you, and even talk to you, during the MRI scan.
  • When the machine is taking pictures, you will hear a repeating, loud, thumping noise coming from the scanner. You will be offered earplugs to help you with this.
  • You should try to breathe quietly and normally, while trying to refrain from coughing and moving. When the thumping noise stops, it does not mean the scan is completed; therefore you must still maintain your position.
  • The procedure may be repeated several times, but the length of the exam ordinarily takes approximately 45 minutes to complete, depending on the type of exam requested.

  • A computer will analyze the receptor’s readings and then convert this information into an image on a video screen.
  • A Northwest Radiology board-certified physician trained in MRI will study this image and determine if more tests are needed.
  • Results are sent to your ordering physician and also posted to our patient portal.
